Organelles are specialized structures that perform various jobs inside cells. The term literally means “little organs.” Chloroplasts are organelles that contain a double membrane and retain their own DNA. Chloroplasts are only present in plant cells. They are responsible for converting sunlight into energy through a process called photosynthesis.
