Dwight D. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas, U.S., and died on March 28, 1969, in Washington, D.C. He was the 34th president of the United States (1953–61). “Ike,” as Eisenhower was called, was the third of seven sons of David Jacob and Ida Elizabeth (Stover) Eisenhower. Dwight and his brothers were introduced to hard work and religious tradition at an early age. A phrase that later became one of the most famous campaign slogans in American history seemed to reflect the impression of everyone who met Eisenhower: “I like Ike!”
