English author H.G. Wells wrote in an article to a local newspaper that the Great War would be “The War That Will End Wars” as we know them. Wells argued that the Central Powers were entirely to blame for the war and that German militarism sparked everything. However, despite the phrase being used for years, it’s most often misattributed to President Woodrow Wilson. By 1918, the term morphed into “The War to End All Wars”, spreading all across Europe like a catchphrase and was synonymous with hope for a better future.
